About 10 min walk from the West exit
Free observation decks on the 45th floor, 202 m up, with Mt. Fuji on clear days.
9:30–22:00, last entry 30 minutes before. The South deck closes on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday, the North deck on the 2nd and 4th Monday. Expect a 20–30 minute queue.
Omoide Yokochō思い出横丁
West exit, along the tracks to the northwest
A few narrow lanes of tiny yakitori bars and counters squeezed beside the railway.
Most places seat only a handful of people; evenings are busiest.
Shinjuku Gyoen新宿御苑
Shinjuku Gate · about 10 min from the South exit
A large national garden mixing Japanese, French and English styles.
Closed Mondays (except late March to late April and Nov 1–15). 9:00–18:00 mid-March to September (to 19:00 in mid-June and July), 9:00–16:30 otherwise. Adults ¥500.

About 5 min from the East exit
Tokyo’s neon entertainment district of restaurants, bars and arcades.
Walk past anyone who tries to pull you into a bar.
