Hakone Tozan Railway箱根登山鉄道
From Hakone-Yumoto
A mountain railway that climbs to Gōra through three switchbacks, about 35 minutes.
Hydrangeas line the track around early July.
Ōwakudani大涌谷
Tozan train, cable car and ropeway
A steaming volcanic valley on the ropeway line, with views of Mt. Fuji on clear days.
The ropeway runs 9:00–17:00 (to 16:15 in December–January). The area often closes because of volcanic gas; people with asthma or heart conditions, pregnant women and infants are advised not to visit.
Lake Ashi cruise芦ノ湖遊覧船
Ropeway to Tōgendai
A 25–35 minute crossing of the lake, with the red torii of Hakone Shrine near the far shore.
May be suspended in fog or strong wind.
Hakone Open-Air Museum彫刻の森美術館
A few steps from Chōkoku-no-Mori Station on the Tozan train
Sculptures set across a hillside park, plus a large Picasso collection.
9:00–17:00, last entry 30 minutes before closing. About ¥2,000 at the door, less online.
