About 2 min on foot from the Central exit; from the Shinkansen, use the Shinkansen Central gate, not Hachijō

Tō-ji東寺

About 15 min on foot from the Hachijō (south) exit

Founded in 796; its five-storey pagoda, about 55 m, is Japan’s tallest.

Grounds 5:00–17:00; halls 8:00–17:00, ¥800. Kōbō-ichi market on the 21st of each month.
