Chūson-ji中尊寺
JR to Hiraizumi (9 min), then the bus to Chūson-ji
Hiraizumi’s great temple, famous for the gilded Konjikidō hall; part of a World Heritage site.
8:30–17:00 (4 November to the end of February, to 16:30). Konjikidō and the treasure hall: adults ¥1,000.
Mōtsū-ji毛越寺
JR to Hiraizumi (9 min), then about 7 min on foot
A temple with a rare Heian-period pond garden, part of Hiraizumi’s World Heritage site.
8:30–17:00 (5 November to 4 March, to 16:30). Adults ¥700.
