About 20 min on foot from the North Exit, or a Shinki bus to Ōtemon-mae
A white castle with its original keep and maze of gates, one of Japan’s first World Heritage sites (1993).
9:00–17:00, entry until 16:00; adults ¥2,500 (under 18 free), cards accepted. Come at opening: hour-long waits happen. Shoes off inside the keep.
Kōko-en Garden好古園
About 15 min on foot, beside the castle
Nine linked Japanese gardens on the site of the castle’s old west residence.
9:00–17:00, last entry 16:30; ¥400, or ¥2,600 with the castle.
