- Randen Arashiyama Line
Station tips
- Trains to Shijō-Ōmiya normally leave from platform 1.
- On the platform there is a foot bath (paid) and the ‘Kimono Forest’ of lit pillars, which glows after dark.
- Hankyu Arashiyama is about 12 minutes on foot, across Togetsukyō Bridge; JR Saga-Arashiyama about 10 minutes.
- The station’s shops open 10:00–18:00 (2F 11:00–18:00).
Arashiyama · Randen terminus
The Randen terminus has no ticket gates and opens straight onto Arashiyama’s main street, the road that runs to Togetsukyō Bridge. Tenryū-ji is right by the station.

Togetsukyō Bridge渡月橋
About 2–4 min on foot: turn left out of the station
The landmark bridge over the Katsura River.
Always open. Packed in cherry and autumn-leaf season; mornings are calmer.
Tenryū-ji天龍寺
About 1–5 min on foot, across the main street
A Zen head temple whose pond garden borrows the hills behind.
Garden 8:30–17:00; ¥500. The Cloud Dragon ceiling (¥500) is shown daily until Dec 6, 2026.
Bamboo Grove竹林の小径
About 10 min on foot
About 400 m of path through tall, tended bamboo.
A public lane, free. Come early. Never carve the bamboo: damaged stalks have to be cut down.
